Question:
I had 3 blood clots in my lungs - which occured during labor of my second child. Still during labor, I had a Greenfield catheter inserted and went on to have a VBAC and a healthy normal boy. I was told that I "blew through" the blood clots and my strong cardiovascular health contributed to this not being a more serious occurance.
I was on coumadin for 5 months and 5 years later everything seems normal.
But - I wonder - since I do travel a bit by car as part of my job - and I try to get out and walk every hour- but sometimes I am either in traffic, late, etc. and may be sitting in my car for 2 or more hours.
Am I at risk for a reoccurance, will the Catheter insertion make a significant reduction in risk? I have varicous veins in my family - so far not with me at 35 - but the indications were that this was pregnancy related.
I had the stroke test which measures circulation and this was normal - is this even relevant?
Thanks,
JC

Answer:
The stroke test is not relevant. You should consider wearing compression stockings from time to time when you are sitting in your car for a longer period of time or during long distance flights.
