REFERENCE: Anatomy
Superficial inguinal arteries and veins, anterior

The arteries are branches of the femoral artery, but the veins are tributaries of the great saphenous veins.

Saphenous opening, anterior view

1. The oval shape of this opening in the fascia lata through which the geat saphenous veins passes to join the femoral vein that lies within the femoral sheath.

2. The sharp superior and inferior free margins of the opening, and the less sharply defined lateral margin.

3. The great saphenoue vein hooks over the inferior free margin; occasional, it joins the femoral vein 1 or 2 cm superior to inferior free margin.
