I have recently experienced a blood clot in my calf. I did not experience a large amount of swelling, although it was hard to tell because I had just broken my ankle a month before and was in a cast. The main symptom I had was continuous pain in my calf, something that felt similar to a charlie horse or muscle cramp. It would make falling asleep more difficult and cause me to wake up a few times a night due to the pain. I would say a trip to the doctor wouldn't hurt and it is better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

I really couldn't answer about symptoms in the arem because my daughter's clot was in her groin and leg. Her symptoms were: Whole leg swollen, sort of a maroon/bluish color, and hard/hot to the touch. The pain did not come and go, it was continuous. The problem is if you are young, most doctors don't know enough about clotting factors so they don't suspect clots. I found most of my info on the internet and even explained some of it to our doctor. The doctor we first saw thought she had an infection in her ovaries. There are people out there trying to bring this condition into the news to get the attention of doctors to take a more serious look and approach to clotting in anyone of age. Some doctor's pooh-pooh the situation because they don't have up to date knowledge of clotting. Don't let them put you off. Find a doctor who will give you answers. By all means get it checked out and demand full and complete testing. Good luck

Age has nothing to do with it. My daughter was only 16 when she had her DVT. Why were they concerned in the past about blood clots? There are predisposing blood factors that can cause blood clotting. My family has one of them and we didn't know it until my daughters diagnosis. I would inquire or go to another doctor for answers. Don't sit by and let them dismis your concerns. You have to take a proactive action on your own health.
