Hi Tobie, Have you ever asked your doc about using a diuretic? Some folks take Lasix. I had dvt/pe 2 yrs ago. Like you, I have no pain in the dvt leg. My thigh area does ache and swell abt 1" as the day goes on. I wear a knee high compression hose. Do you get your feet up during the day & at night on the couch? Also helps to elevate the end of your bed so your feet are above your heart. I was hoping to end my coumadin therapy after one year, but docs get spooked when they see PE on my chart. I had hoped to get off of coumie and start a couple of supplements to try to help the leg. Since I am still on anticoagulant, I determined that I would cautiously attempt them anyway. I talked w my doc & have slowly started citrus bioflavanoids. Monitoring the INR as I go. Next I will start some grape seed extract & monitor closely. Both of these supplements are supposed to help w chronic venous insufficiency and edema. I won't do mega doses, just 650 mg citrus bioflavanoids and 150 grape seed extract. Mega doses of grape seed extract can act as a slight anticoagulant. My INR has always been very steady. Talk it over w your doc. Keep in mind that some docs do aspirin therapy w their patients on coumadin, so I figured I did not want to wait any longer to try these supplements. I'll keep you posted. FYI--I do low dose coumadin now w INR between 1.5-2.0. Suci Citrus bioflavanoids http://www.ahealthyme.com/topic/topic103411011 Grape seed extract http://www.ahealthyme.com/topic/topic103411011

I had my first DVT 13 years ago, and my second 8 years ago. I am now on lifelong coumadin therapy. I rarely have pain anymore, and I can do moderate exercise daily. My problem is that my left leg is still bigger than my right. I wear compression stockings, but I can't ever get the edema to go all the way down. When I wake up, my ankle always looks better, but the size of my calf never changes. I have also noticed the discoloration in my foot is getting worse. It's almost at the point where I don't want to wear shorts or skirts anymore. Anyone else have these issues? Any suggestions on helping these problems, or should I just be thankful that I'm not in pain and have a normal activity level? Thanks for any input. Tobie
