    Diagnosis and Treatment
Treatment of nephrotic syndrome is a key part of overall treatment for renal vein thrombosis. Medications such as steroids and immune-suppression drugs, as well as other medications that can decrease the protein loss in urine may be administered. Treatment of an underlying renal cell cancer includes surgery for early-stage disease. Treatment to prevent new clot formation and to prevent the existing clot from traveling to other parts of the body (embolism) is also available. Anticoagulants may be prescribed and the patient may be placed on bed rest or to limit physical activity. To avoid renal thrombosis adequate fluid intake should be maintained to prevent dehydration.
