To treat or not to treat?
I am a twenty seven year old female from Jamaica, West Indies. The females in my family are predisposed to having varicose and spider veins in the thigh and lower leg regions. The veins typically begin to appear at the onset of puberty. Fortunately for us, the veins do not cause pain or any type of physical distress. They are however, unsightly. One of my older sisters and myself have had sclerotherapy performed, with delightful results. The procedure - a series of injection into the veins - is not as painful as it sounds; the needle used is so tiny that one does not feel it enter the skin. What is however felt, is a slight stinging as the medicine enters some of the veins.
After reading through some of the postings from other individuals, my advice? Have the veins treated if they really cause you physical discomfort or (as in my case) extremely unsettling self consciousness. Get more than one medical opinion before having the procedure done, and have a trained medical practicioner who is experienced in performing the procedure perform yours. By doing these things, you will be more certain why you are having the procedure done, and by using a trained and experienced practicioner, you will benefit from the practicioner's experience and skill. A skilled practicioner will mean acurate treatment, which will lessen the time needed to obtain the desired results. And remember, not all varicose veins can be treated with sclerotherapy. Getting more than one doctor's opinion will inform you re the best procedure for you, and performing your own research on the recommended procedure will benefit you, as you will know what you should expect.
