Varicouse Veins
My name is Diana and I am 16 years old. I have had varicose veins for as long as I can remember, because of the long period of time which I have had them I thought they were normal. One day, a nurse came to my school and told me that I could go the hospital to get a surgeon's opinion. The surgeon told me what I already knew; he did say an operation might be needed.
I went to my doctor to see if there was something which I could do and she told me that if I do have an operation, it might well clear my varicose veins, but that I will get worse varicose veins when I get older. On the other hand, if I don't have the operation, they will continue to get worse and I will have difficulty walking when am older. I was prescribed support tights, which I wore for 3 weeks. In that time, my varicosities didn’t go away, but increased. I stopped using them and told my doctor but nothing has happened.
I have heard about the operation, which they have been doing, in which the surgeon uses a light to see in your leg to locate where the blood clot is coming from, so they can remove it. I have told my parents but they think that it would be dangerous. Although I have always had these varicose veins I feel that I am deformed or dirty in some way because I can't were leggings, or skirts, shorts or even a swimming costume. I feel that I can't be a proper teenager because of this problem I have. I would give anything to get rid of them but I don't want to be left with a horrible mistake. In fact, getting rid of them has been my Christmas wish for the past 2 years.
Could you please tell me if there is anything to do to make my wish come true?
Yours sincerely, Diana
