Cronic Venous Insufficiency
I am 51 years old and I was diagnosed with CVI about 6 months ago. I didn't know what the heck was going wrong with me. It all started 5 years ago. I came home from a 3 day fishing trip and when I got back to land, I noticed that my ankles were really swollen. I didn't think much of it because I was cramped up the whole trip, and it went away after a day or so.
Then 6 months later, I noticed my legs beginning to turn orange in color and my ankles were swelled up again. I thought that I was drinking alcohol too much and that the salt in the alcohol was doing this. So I slowed down, but the symtoms were still there.
I went to the doctor and he told me that this was a permanent skin discoloration and I must wear elastic stockings for the rest of my life and keep my feet elevated at night.
I have lost about 60 pounds since the doctor visit and plan to get to my correct weight by October 2001, I am optomistic and believe that I will be able to walk well again. But now I have much difficulity walking and I have pain all the time. Anyone know of anything new for a cure?
