multiple symptoms
I am writing on behalf of my husband. He is 31 now. He has a birthmark down the left side of his entire body. The problem is his left foot. He has edema, hemangioma, ulcers that will not heal, he wakes up in excruciating pain at night if his foot rubs the sheets, once he gets off his feet to rest he cannot do to the pain, he sits up mashing on a vein that relieves the pressure only a bit, he wears a compression stocking, he uses a leg pump, he elevates his foot, his foot is purple, he's had skin grafts, several doctors have told him he might need to loose the top portion of his foot, including his toes, he's been in an oxygen chamber, he's been to a wound clinic that specializes in healing wounds that won't heal. One doctor wanted to strip his veins and fillet his leg like a fish. My husband has made some good calls by refusing to do what some of these doctors have suggested. The closest we have come to healing is foot was by a doctor named Kistner in Hawaii. When my husband first arrived, Kistner told him he might want to think about loosing his foot. My husband stormed out of the hospital and the doctor and staff proceeded to look for him. Once they got together again, Dr. Kistner mentioned a procedure known as sclerotherapy. the only thing is that he had only performed this procedure on vericose veins and not the deep veins where it seemed the problem lied. Losing his foot may be an option, but we decided it would be the very last option. So, with a team of all sorts of specialist he did the procedure . He spent a month there and the procedure worked, for about six months anyway. I feel like we put tape on the problem to patch it, but the real problem has not been solved. Now we are back to square one. I found Dr Kistner by doing research and since I know the foot has been healed once, I will never give up the fight. It's hard when I see all these cases, but none like my husbands. He is a text book case. He started developing the foot pain when he was seven and used to be humiliated when his father would make him wear house shoes to school. Not to mention, the countless number of rude people who approach us when were out together to ask him what happened to him because they see his birthmark on his face and hands. For any of you out there that get discouraged, remember theres always someone out there with a problem worse than yours, as i know there are people out there with problems worse than ours. Keep doing the research, doctors have no way of doing extensive research on every patient they see. If there is anyone out there that can help us, we will travel to the end of the world if needed.
