phlebitis/Infection
I recently visited my local hospital ER where I was administered an IV for a procedure. The needle hurt after being in my hand for about 15 minutes. By the time the nurse pulled it out after the procedure (about 1 hour later) I could hardly stand it. Even the tape hurt when it was pulled off. My left arm and hand swelled up until they were double the size of my right. I saw a doctor at a local clinic the next morning, and he diagnosed me with an infection from the IV and phlebitis. I was given antibiotics and an arm sling and told to take 1 asprin a day to ward off blod clots. The clinic performed an ultrasound to make sure I had not already formed a clot. I am in severe pain. The swelling and pain are not getting any better. I cannot sleep through the night or perform my normal daily activities. Does anyone know what sort of legal right patients have in these cases? I have been ready other stories and it worries me that I may have pain and swelling off and on for longer than I imagined. Please help.
