vascular malformation
I have a 31/2-year-old daughter who has a vascular malformation located within her left hand, predominantly involving her thumb. When she runs, cries or becomes active, her thumb swells up and fills with what looks like blood. It becomes hard to the touch and painful for her. She has seen a hand surgeon in Syracuse, NY, and is scheduled to see an interventional radiologist next month to explore the possibility of surgery involving the insertion of a catheter to inject an embolis in order to enlarge the hand to allow the surgeon to remove a portion of this malformation. I have heard of nothing that will permanently relieve this condition, and I am currently researching other possibilites for my daughter. We're seeking the opinions of doctors at children's hospitals in Philidelphia and Boston. After reading other articles posted on this site related to CVM, I'm not sure that we'll find someone who is more optimistic about her outcome.
If anyone has any suggestions or information on this condition or knows of any links for more information, please contact me. Thank you.
